Sorry; my fault for being unclear - it was indeed the limes that gave them
the nickname, not anything to do with grog. The mixing of lime juice into
the rum to make grog was simply a guess on my part, based on the fact that
all the [modern] recipes I found on-line for drinks called "Navy Grog" are
fundamentally mixes of rum with citrus juices.
