Low berth endurance should be fairly substantial given numerous
references in the old days to using them in an emergency to wait to
be rescued without using up scarce life-support resources.

If it's possible to misjump to an "empty" hex, send a radio message
to a nearby system (say 1 parsec) and go into low berths to await
rescue, that'd give a *minmum* endurance of 4 years.

Oh yeah, on the "different species" bit, I'd say that Vargr in human
LB and vice-versa should get a lesser penalty because at least both
species are terran mammals.
