Dear Subscribers,
It is here at last! VictorianVoices.net has officially relaunched, and now offers over 12,000 articles from Victorian magazines such as The Strand, The Girl's Own Paper, Cassell's Family Magazine, Century Magazine, Godey's, Peterson's Magazine, The Illustrated London Almanack, and many others.
I admit, there were times when I wasn't sure it was ever going to happen. For example, do you know how long it takes to sort out and catalog 12,000+ articles? I didn't, when I started. I do now... Or how long it takes to code? Or how often an obsessive-compulsive like myself decides to tweak the design "just one more time..."?
But the end result is, if I do say so myself, definitely worth it. VictorianVoices.net is now a fantastic reference library for anyone with an interest in Victoriana, Victorian-era history, and especially the Victorian way of life. It has a wealth of information on Victorian women's issues, as well as hundreds (maybe thousands) of recipes, loads of arts and crafts, tips on managing the Victorian home, and so much more.
In addition to the nonfiction articles, the new site offers a delightful fiction section with over 650 stories and short novels, including works by Arthur Conan Doyle (yes, Sherlock Holmes is here), E. Nesbit, Mark Twain, Victor Hugo, Bret Harte, and again (how often should I say this?) many more... All the stories you've enjoyed in Victorian Times are here, of course! You'll find loads of tales by authors you already know and love - and loads more by authors that I hope you'll come to know and love, who don't deserve to be forgotten!
I'm especially proud of another new addition: The Victorian Fashion Gallery. This is a huge selection of Victorian fashion images from various women's and fashion publications. You can explore it by year or by magazine. At present it offers over 1500 images, and I'm working on more.
And, of course, the site has an entirely new look - a bit more colorful and lively, I hope! Now, I've checked and rechecked and double-checked my pages, but... please do a me a favor, and let me know if you find a link tha
