When _you_ don't have the skill, but your _character_ does...

...and it's not a separate skill in game terms (it'd be a subskill or
specialized aspect of a skill), how would you play it?
Example - and I will absolutely freely admit that it was a question raised
by one of TC's comments in his AAR for TravCon 2026:
You're part of a team of medics responding to a disaster. As is usual in
any disaster, you're being inundated with injured, and (in reality) you
(and the other doctors) are going to have to triage the incoming. In simple
terms, there are going to be three classes of patient:
1. Get this one into surgery, right now; he can be saved, but only if we
don't wait! (Call this a "red tag")
2. Make this one as comfortable as possible and get him out of the way;
he's not in real danger, and we can take care of him later when there
aren't any red tags (or when there are more doctors and operating
tables than red tags). (Call this a "white tag")
3. Make this one as comfortable as possible and get him out of the way
somewhere else; there's not going to be anything we can do. (Call
this a "black tag")
(Yeah, the descriptions are blunt, but so is doing this shit in real life.
I couldn't do it; I probably couldn't survive the internship even if I
could have survived the academic side of medical school.)
Triage is basically evaluating the incoming "on the fly" and putting them
into one of the three classes.
Suppose it becomes important in-game to do triage: How do you represent it
when none of your _players_ have the medical knowledge, even though their
characters do? Extending the question, apply the situation to _any_
specialized use of a subskill, not necessarily medical; how do you game it?
