Given the setup for the Killer Joke, wouldn't it have indiscriminately
clobbered people who can _understand_ German who heard it? Much as the
English-language original clobbered people who understood English who
heard it/read it?  (e.g. the late Ernest Scribbler, writer of jokes)

Such as Allied intel troops, linguists, sundry Tommies, etc?

I shudder to think of the casualties if the Killer Joke was let loose
in, say, Oflag IV-C (aka Colditz).

(I know, was funnier if they didn't worry about that)
