Getting Off the Ground
Mission Type: Ship Crew/Ground Escort.
Primary Objective: Get the medical team to the warzone and keep them safe without getting too much in the way.
Suggested Size: 4-6, with supporting NPCs if necessary
Primary Skill types: ship crew, ground combat, some social. Prior military leadership experience may help the crew on the their primary objective.
Setting: any planet of TL4-7 with Population 8+ that the Referee is willing to plunge into civil war (or just war, if previously Balkanized). It is suggested that the mission be given at the closest Class-B or Class-A port.
Required Equipment: None required at start of mission, Cr100,000 personal equipment budget is provided for the party if they need weapons, armor, or other such gear. If the characters have no ship, the patron has provided one - a Class-R Subsidized Trader with most of the cargo bay turned into a hospital with modular equipment. If the characters have ship, they are hired at full salary, plus double passenger and freight rate to escort the IFHS ship, plus additional doctors and supplies, to the world and provide support. Since the IFHS ship can only travel at Jump-1, that could be quite a bit.
The Interstellar Free Healers Society, working with Starships of Succor, needs help. All available hospital ships have been deployed to deal with natural disasters, an honor war between two separate worlds, and a disease quarantine. Now, (Insert World Name Here) has seen its tenuous political situation flare up into civil war, with many early strikes taking out medical centers on both sides. Exacerbating the issue is a semi-unrelated insurgency that is threatening displaced civilians.
IFHS has obtained a Type-R and emergency refit it to hold a full field hospital, requiring only a crew. However, due to the situation at hand, they are also being required to take a crew who can act as a ground escort.
The ship, named "Jeanine's Profit" by the previous owner, started off with 205 tons of cargo and 8 passenger staterooms. 60 tons have been used for a new fuel tank, bringing total fuel up to 112 tons - allowing for two jumps of j-1 and 5 weeks, 2 days, of operations, or one j-1 and 12 weeks of operation. Added to this is bunkrooms for 30 nurses and others, taking up 24 tons, with 16 tons being used for shared freshers, an inadequate galley, and a common space. Of the remaining 105 tons, 10 is used for supplies, 10 is a patient lounge/over flow triage area, 20 is for cheap flat-packed refugee housing, and the final 65 is used for the hospital. The hospital provides two surgery suites at 8 tons, and holds 55 beds.
I’ll add more later, but tell me what you think so far.
