Here in the far north of Scotland, addresses outside the 'urban' areas of Wick, Thurso and Halkirk are generally of the form, house name, village, postal town, postcode, although both village and postcode are only very general indicators as they can both cover fairly large areas.

For example, go looking for me in Canisbay, 'my' village, and unless you're lucky enough to bump into one of the two or three people there who know me, then all you'll get are blank looks as I actually live in an even smaller village a few minutes drive away. But put my postcode into your sat-nav and it'll bring you right to my front door - which is a pain (for you; I don't mind the interruptions to my otherwise humdrum day) if you're actually looking for one of the other properties within about a mile radius which shares the same postcode.
