 Ah, Silly carrier tricks... The one cruise I was on they where doing static deckrun launches of F/A-18s. The problem as I was told with using a C-130 for C.O.D. was that they basically had to clear the deck to get it back off the deck once down.

Which in a modern a/c carrier is just about impossible unless a certain # of a/c are kept in-the-air the whole time.

Still, I wonder if the similar but smaller, twin-engine C-123, esp one w/ the later turbojet pods under the wings, would've done better.

Well, probably still not worth disrupting the sequence of flight-deck ops. Which, from what I understand, carry on pretty much 24/7.
