Well, this was Bowman Belt, as depicted in "Beltstrike." Meaning there were plenty of derelict Third/Fourth Frontier War derelics floating around, from which such "signage" could easily have come . . .
 
Alas, even then, it'd be likely to mold sitting there in the open.
