Yeah. I remember reading somewhere that the medieval Popes first proclaimed that nobles were not allowed to attack each other on a saint's day (e.g. only defensive fighting was allowed), then slowly added saint's days until these almost filled the calendar. The tactic seems to have worked, at least to the extent that the smaller brawls more or less died out, in favor of royal wars.
