My immediate thought on reading about those was: "Lord help any civilian ship that stumbles into a combat zone. Cautious/paranoid opponents are going to nuke them 'just in case,' then adjust their sensor log to show radiation readings consistent with that target carrying inadequately-shielded det-lasers."
