Yeah, that’s mainly because making a curved one would be horribly expensive. However, unlike Patton’s book, they’re very much edged weapons. Many many moons ago I was in the university’s fencing club, mainly did foil, but got pressed into service for the saber events at a tournament we went to. I bombed (mainly because I was a rank amateur) but won a few points when I unconsiously reverted to foil and used the pointy end :-)
