True, but then again, it's good enough for the London Underground, to name but one system. In fact, the main reasons for choosing AC over DC are that AC allows longer (or heavier) and more frequent trains and that the infrastructure is somewhat simpler as AC can be fed direct to the train, while DC needs to be rectified and conditioned to remove power spikes.

If there's sufficient available hydrocarbons on planet, they'd go diesel, anyway. Then all that money spent on hauling heavy batteries around could be better used elsewhere.
