I was skimming the same blog I found the original report I posted about and they discussed the following episode of the 'Forgotten Weapons' YouTube channel, which covered an experimental shotgun design called the 'Liberator'

Now in the blog entry it is speculated that while the official reason for designing these guns was to supply 'liberation movements' and whatnot, the use of these guns off world may have also been a consideration.

The brass case also helps remove heat from the system, always a big plus
