I'd say that the radiation signature is probably what keeps this off the battlefield. Even if it's shielded enough for the gunner to survive (distinct memories of the little warning label on my MILES gear about the unit being exempted from federal radiation safety standards . . . ), the radiation spike on the enemies sensors isn't going to lend itself to long-term battlefield survivability.
