When I need to do something like this, I do a real-world analogy as the basis for a back-of-the-envelope calculation. You can rent a car worth around $20,000 for around $20/day. So 0.1% of cost per day is probably in the right ballpark for vehicle rentals.

Hi there

Quick question before a quick lunch time game of Traveller tomorrow.

Does anyone have any rule of thumb or house rule (or can point me to published rules which I can't think of) on hire costs of equipment rather than purchase cost?

I'm specifically thinking of vehicles, say an air/raft but if it works across anything that would be handy.

In-Game, no, but here’s a breakdown of rental for aircraft, <http://www.curtiseads.com/aircraft-rental/own-vs-rent-aircraft/>

Those costs are clearly for well-used aircraft, $75 k for a Cessnam 172 is way way low. A new one is right in line with an Air-raft cost

If not, is 1/2%  of purchase cost per day with 2% deposit reasonable?  It seems OK for a ground vehicle (Cr6000, Core Rulebook, p.103) coming out at Cr30/day but seems rather a lot for an air/raft at nigh on Cr1400/day (purchase cost Cr275,000).

Aircraft rent per hour of flight time  <http://www.stcharlesflyingservice.com/aircraft-rental-instruction-rates/

We're on Regina if that makes any difference.  Would anyone typically try to factor in world tech level or anything, or is that making it too complex?

I'm interested in recycling my QREBS article for Freelance Traveller and giving the players three rental options of different quality, and associated different costs.  Not sure if it will work in game terms.
