I paid about $85.00 for a copy of MT World Builder's Handbook, which is the most I've ever paid for one item.
I agree that the prices vary, however I would not pay thousands of dollars for a Traveller or any other game system's materials. I thought hard about buying World Builder's Handbook. If I could have found a cheaper price I would have.
I doubt I would have gotten such prices for selling any gaming related material, but then again it could happen should I decide to sell anything.

Well, a few years back I sold a gouple of the Traveller related games
for prices in the $100-$200 range. One to a guy in Japan, the other
to somebody in Germany.
Prices vary a *lot*. And what folks will pay depends a lot on the
penetration of the game into their area back when the items were
printed.
