David,

This started when it was suggested that by late 22nd c. the platoon structure may be considerably different from that posted by Leslie because of the ( even now) greater use of tactical drones.

I pre-empted the question of how the human members of the platoon will command and control the drones by suggesting that drone use even in the home will by this time be ubiquitous, and interfacing will be via nano / GM  technology used prenatally to facilitate this interfacing ( I coloquialy referred to as 'wired for').

That is, by the time one joins a military service the training will not be in drone use, but rather retraining for specific military drone capabilities, e.g. a recon drone in place of a shopping drone...if there are still grocery stores in late 22nd c.

It is irrelevant what wording I used.
The points are that the dismounted platoon of 150 years from now will be even more different than the current platoon is from one of 1865.

There are significant challenges, but not insurmountable within even the next 50 years. Part of my confidence comes from following news regarding efforts to find solutions to genetic disorders.
