Given the requirements to pull off the focusing trick -- significantly bending light on a small distance scale -- I'm sure most of the damage is caused by the gravitic element of the weapon. But then calling it a "laser" is kind of like still calling a BB gun a BB gun when you've added a 50-cal machine gun to the weapon. :)
