Hello Knapp,
Most of the adventures my short lived characters, Red Shirts, have participated in started out trying to
(1) get back something for the patron which might be a family member or document
(2) stop or start some sort of plot to take over a ship, colony, world, or whatever the referee came up with.
(3) covert operations for a corporation and/or government.
Of course the party usually has to use shady methods on more than one occasion to successfully complete the adventure. As mentioned many of my characters rarely survived to the end of the adventure when my luck with the dice decided to vacant the game.
