Thank you for confirming that T4 FF&S is a modified TNE FF&S and
from some of my comparisons find that the two do match up on a lot of items.
I’ll also agree that so far TNE FF&S, barring my math errors, is recreating
the tables I’ve worked on pretty closely. The bit’s I’ve checked in SSDS has
been dead on, of course that was the hull surface area. My quick check of the
standard lasers in SSDS has been close for everything but the crew requirements
and the ranges. Of course I’m having trouble with the ranges in TNE too.
Basically my current madness is to help Donald McKinney with the
Consolidated T4 Errata found at
http://dmckinne.winterwar.org/pdfs/ConsolidatedT4Errata.pdf.
In the errata he would like the Book 1 hull design run through QSDS 1.5.1
located on BITS at
http://www.bitsuk.net/Archive/GameRules/files/qsds15e.pdf
and Book 2 SSDS revised PDF version by David Golden which I received from Donald
McKinney back in 2011. I could have sworn I found the PDF somewhere, but now I
can’t seem to find the link. I’ve done some spot checks in T4 Book B Fire,
Fusion, and Steel which has resulted in a couple bits of possible errata.
As I mentioned somewhere in my posts I’ve been posting TNE and T4 questions
over on the COTI forums with mixed success for TNE and very little for T4. Likes
like I’ll be asking a lot of questions here and my apologies if they are
rehashing past topics. Bruce Johnson supplied a link to the TML archives and so
far I’ve draw a blank on my searches, of course I would probably find something
if my search was for someone else.

Tom,
Human error aside, T4 Book 1's QSDS, T4 Book 2's SSDS, and TNE's FF&S
should all match up. I built QSDS using TNE FF&S, while Dave Golden
built SSDS the same way. We probably made some mistakes in the process,
and probably also stumbled over unknown-at-the-time FF&S errata. I
wasn't involved with T4 Book 3 so I can't say for sure, but I seem to recall
that it was written by Greg Porter, and probably did not use TNE FF&S as a
base for everything the way QSDS and SSDS do.
Dave Golden and I were co-authors of the T4 FF&S2. It is based on
the TNE FF&S and should generally produce comparable results, except for
specific cases where we attempted to fix things that were known to be broken in
FF&S, or in response to specific directions from Marc and Imperium
Games. I recall that the writing and editing came down to the wire on our
deadline, and we certainly would have preferred more time to review, test, and
revise it. If there is a lot of interest, I still have (most of) the files
and notes behind FF&S2, so can probably answer questions about why specific
changes were made.
