Hello Jim and Knapp,
 
I thought I heard on a local tv news cast that the survivor
ejected from the ship. IIRC the space shuttle had ejection
seats, of course I may be thinking of something else.

The radio transcript from the rescue team released today mentioned a parachute and checking a second location after finding one crewmember dead in the wreckage. Sounds like he bailed out somehow.
