Dedicating 20% of your volume to a bridge and 44% of your volume to fuel does put a crimp in your cargo space, yes.Add in a mandatory 4% for a computer, 14% to mandatory drives, 4% for one stateroom and 3% for a fuel purifier and we're down to 11 total dtons to play with, including upgrading the manuever drive from 2 gees.I split these 3 dtons to cargo, 4 dtons to a second stateroom, 2 dtons to a backup computer, 1 dton to a "vehicle bay" and 1dton to a turret. They are, literally, the only bits of spare volume in the vehicle, if you want a 100 dton ship that can do a jump 4 and pull two gees - and the decision to stick with two gees is going to annoy the crap out of Imperial Navy for the next millenia.A SC-15N model drops a stateroom (pilot and gunner share a bunk, and crosstrain to engineer) and the backup computer to get more or less fleet speed of 4 gees - but this makes the IISS unhappy, as the backup computer presumably represents survey gear and whatnot.By the way, the base SC-15 can immediately replace the obsolete TL13 Xboats without the need for Xboat tenders.Ian WhitchurchOn Sat, Oct 25, 2014 at 4:25 AM, Phil Pugliese (via tml list) <nobody@simplelists.com> wrote:This email was sent from yahoo.com which does not allow forwarding of emails via email lists. Looks good.
The only caveat I can come up with is the big reduction in cargo space.
I do recall a few adventures (altho I always preferred a free/fartrader myself) where the PC's augmented their cash flow by carrying merchandise.
I guess some merchandise *could* be stacked in unused staterooms?

This is the FS proposal for the
SC-15 project - a jump 4 scout/courier, for the Navy's
needs of the next millenium.
Unlike certain of our competitors,
we decided that maintaining the same 100 dton wedge profile
of the Type S was a high priority, as this means that the
vast amount of IISS infrastructure can be
re-used.
The ship is
capable of the jump-4 of the majority of the Imperial Navy
squadrons, and has a backup computer that allows it to
maintain jump-3 even under battle damage. Two staterooms, an
air/raft bay and 2dtons of cargo space have been maintained,
along with the dual turret of the old type S.
Fuel scoops and purification have,
of course, been maintained.
We commend the new workhorse of the
Third Imperium to you.

The J4/2G version has 2 staterooms (not 4, on
the original), and 6
dtons remaining, which
could be another stateroom, and air/raft bay,
or whatever else.

The turret mechanism is a dton. There is no
way I'd send a 100 dton
ship out without
a turret.
The original Book
2 scout had one empty double turret installed,
stock, along with 4 staterooms, an air/raft
bay, and 3 dtons of cargo
space left on
the design.
I'm
puttering in High Guard Shipyard.

Perhaps the diffs 'tween the CT LBB2 & CT LBB5
(HG) systems are coming into play?
Otherwise, it would seem that, using CT HG, one would have
to resort to J3 2G in order to match the original scout
ship.
