Actually, Supplement 9 Fighting Ships and Supplement 7 Traders and Gunboats share the same problem.
The problem was that the designs where built, at best by using the first editions of LBB 2 and LBB 5, or the worst case drafts of the design and construction rules. My guess is that there wasn't enough time to or not enough bodies to run the original designs through the second edition rules or The Traveller Book, I think that is the right title.
Of course I haven't got to Supplement 9 yet, but that is the next one I run through my spreadsheets.

Just flipped open Fighting Ships, and what a batch of rules that are
used. Just from a brief refresher, I have to say the Starships
construction rules are more Inclusive than exclusive.
