Hello Phil Pugliese,

The short answer is: Andrea Vallance's High Guard Shipyard application has from what I can see all of the published designs built using LBB 5.

The longer answer (aka whining) is: On another note most of the original designs where built using LBB 2 Starships 1st edition rules that was published in 1977. Unfortunately, none of the designs appear to have been checked with LBB 2 Starships 2nd edition that came out in 1981.

Under the LBB 2 Starships 1st edition construction rules the designer of the express boat interpreted the rule on page 13 "The installed power plant must be of a letter type at least equal to the drive letter of the installed drive (the power plant letter may be higher than the maneuver drive letter.)" to mean that the power plant could be dispensed with since no maneuver drive was installed.

Based on LBB 2 1st edition page 11: "Each starships is fitted with a power plant (to provide internal power and power the maneuver drive), a maneuver drive (for interplanetary travel), and a jump drive (for interstellar jumps)." I'm not sure that you can dispense with the maneuver drive.

LBB 2 Starships 2nd edition page 13 states "A starship must have a jump drive and a maneuver drive; a maneuver drive may also be installed, but is not required.", which clearly indicates that the LBB 2 1st edition express boat design needed to be redesigned. Unfortunately, the redesign appeared to have been and still appears to be at the bottom of a priority list somewhere.

Sorry to get so far a field, but I'm working my way through Supplement 7 using LBB 2 2nd edition and found I couldn't recreate the express boat. When I ran into trouble I began asking questions over at COTI.

I've got two goals in mind the first goal is to run the designs through using the Book 5 rules for combining LBB 2 maneuver drives, jump drives, and/or power plant in the HG design and construction process. The second goal is to recreate the designs using the straight HG design and construction process.

Subject: [TML] Original CT LBB's scoutship vs CT HG scoutship?

This email was sent from yahoo.com which does not allow forwarding of emails via email lists. Therefore the sender's email address (philpugliese@yahoo.com) has been replaced with a dummy one. The original message follows:

As I recall, the legacy 3I scout ship was originally designed using the original set of CT LBB's.

Has anyone tried using CT LBB5 (HG) to design a similar vessel?

As I recall, there *were* some differences 'tween the two.
(In fact, I believe CT HG even had a comment that it was acceptable to design ships up to 1000dT's under either system)
