Oh dear - it sounds as if I shouldn't have asked!

But many thanks for the various responses - and thank you Thomas for the pointer to the Far Trader site you mentioned.  Will play with that tomorrow.

I have a feeling that I might not go into detail on how many/what ships are going to the next world as I thought I might.  Leave it for the individual referees to decide at that time.

So much for thinking I'd try and make it T5 compatible.  Although I have got some interesting ideas from the extended UWPs I've been looking at.

While I'm here - am I right in thinking that although Archduchess Isis of Ilelish (Archduchess of the Domain - p.97 of GURPS Nobles)  is based on Dlan, there would *also* be the Duke (or Duchess) of Ilelish - the Sector - probably also on the planet?

Far Trader needs to be updated.

I am always interested in a cogent explanation of what's missing, wrong, incomplete, or outdated in the Far Trader rules (for obvious reasons).

Given the availability of energy sources, why would there be substantial
physical shipping rather than just transfer of digital files with the design
that would be just 3-D printed in the materials required in-place?

Scale efficiencies. Despite the massive amount of energy available, it is sometimes cheaper to make physical objects via more efficient means than 3D printing and ship them across space.
