I figure high-tech Traveller naval battles are a lot like what we see in Weber's Honorverse books: massive salvos of nuke-pumped laser missiles.

But that's beyond the realm of PC interest in my games, so I don't worry about it in any detail. 

The story revolves around command grade characters and other key actors on a warship, and while the reader may not think much of it, this is one of those niggling details that once I think about it I have to find an answer.  :-|  Sometimes this compulsion has kept me up very late digging through link after link for an answer...


NOTE: I go with Weberesque nuke-pumped detonation lasers specifically to get around those pesky nuclear dampers. Dampers don't help you when the nuke is being detonated a few hundred miles off and what's hitting you is the grav-lens-focused x-ray blast it produced . . .
