The only thing I remember is a very old sci-fi story where a ship is stranded on a 2.5G (anti-grav not present) world. The crew struggled mightily to make repairs. It was mentioned that a major problem would be the increased stress upon the blood vessels of the circulatory system.

In the 'Known Universe"<sic?> stories I believe there was a colonyship that wound up on a hi-G world. It was stated that the descendants are immensely strong & powerful but rarely live past 55 or so cuz' their hearts give out.
