But there is ALON (a ceramic compound composed of powdered aluminium and other ingredients. According to Wikipedia, it's about twice as resistant to penetration as armored glass (e.g. a 1.7 inch thickness can stop a .50 BMG round - although the range at which this occurred is not revealed).
Now I’m going to have to go through a decade of old PM issues if I cannot find that screen capture; then try to ID the particular Dept of Commerce report..also from the ‘30s to find out what they were talking about...
