Hello Bill,

Thank you for adding the link that I forgot to include.

I’ve been trying to find an online source for architectural graphic standards, unfortunately I have not been able to find something that is free. I bought a copy of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Architectural Graphic Standards Student Edition an abridgement of the 7th edition by Ramsey/Sleeper copyright 1989 back in 1990.

Using either or both the shipboard habitability document and the  AIA book would add a lot more detail but I think would allow for a better set of deck plans.

Thank you again Bill for adding the link.

All,

In case anybody cares, you can find the document Tom cites at https://www.mscorphab.com/MiscFiles/Shipboard%20Habitability%20Design%20Criteria%20Manual.pdf

It's got some pretty neat stuff in it, such as water cooler, lighting (candle power) and crew stowage requirements in its 179 pages... ;-)

Hello everyone,

To the best of my knowledge deck plan rules in Traveller, except T5 which I do not have, use the same format:

Non-allocated space is used for cargo storage or waste space.

Stateroom displacement tonnage provides passageways, recreation, dining, sleeping, and sanitary facilities.

Airlocks are part of the bridge and/or engineering volume.

With the exception of TNE/T4 none of the other rule sets appear to take in to account access space.

Realistically, deck plans should be drawn in the same way as floor plans for buildings which requires more instructions with the requirements for items like the size of a bed, the space occupied by the bathroom with all the fixtures, how much space the kitchen fixtures take up, etc.

The USN has the following document: NAVSEA Technical Publication T9640-AC-DSP-010/HAB SHIPBOARD HABITABILITY DESIGN CRITERIA AND PRACTICES MANUAL (SURFACE SHIPS) FOR NEW SHIP DESIGNS AND MODERNIZATION
