Hey,

I'm heading to the initial session of a new Mongoose Traveller game this coming Sunday evening [4/28], as a player, not a GM (rare for me). Per my subject line . . .

Well, as we say on our enquiry desk or in my lectures... there are no stupid questions...

Given Traveller has flirted(?) with d10s and d20s (and d12s I think in one of the boxed games?  Maybe 2300 or something), it's a fair question.

Mongoose Traveller DOES use only d6 dice, correct?

[I'm pretty sure it does, but I'd hate to show up with just d6 and actually need some different dice . . .]

Yes, definitely d6 only.  Or D6 as I thing MgT2 now styles it.
I'm occasionally, as referee, tempted to use a d10 or something if I've stumbled across a handy non-Traveller random table that I fancy using but I'm as likely to make a notation in pencil down the side some way of using d6s to generate the rolls.  Or just rewrite the tables to my own taste.

(See for example the series of d66 tables I've sent to Freelance Traveller:
In the Grey
At the Bar
Off the Wall and
Out of the Wind
I think that's all so far... I'm working on a plant one).

I don't think I've ever rolled more than 4 at once, but as someone else said, a nasty weapon might mean you'd find six or more handy.

Boon and bane dice mean you might at least want three to hand rather than just two which is pretty much all my players and I ever use.  (Mainly because we started under MgT1 and although we have used the 2nd edition trade rules and will probably use 2nd edition ship combat rules if we ever get there, we haven't really formally shifted to 2nd edition rules.  Hence I had to rewrite character skills when I took some favourite scenes to TravCon last month.)

hth
and have fun!
