Hello. In recent months, a number of SERIALST subscribers have
expressed interest in wanting more information about back issues
and exchange services that are freely-offered on the Internet.
It is true that, for a number of years, SERIALST's moderators have
turned away postings for wanted or available listings of serials.
There are, in fact, a number of other forums that deal with back
issues and exchanges. Rather than simply referring people who send back
issues lists to the sentence in the SERIALST Scope document that states,
"SERIALST is *not* a forum for the trade or exchange of duplicate, wanted
or unwanted serials," SERIALST's moderators have, for some time, wanted
to also be able to give them a listing of sources that would include
several options for pursuing the trade or exchange of back issues.
I am pleased to announce that a listing of Back Issues & Exchange Services
has recently been compiled and is now available at:
http://www.uvm.edu/~bmaclenn/backexch.html
It includes information about, and direct links to seven sources (North
American, British, European) for trading serial back issues and other
materials. It also includes a section which lists three forums that
can be used for discussion of processes (rather than actual trading) for
topics dealing with back issues, gifts, exchanges, etc.
Feel free to link, as you wish, to the Back Issues & Exchange Services
page. Please note, too, that I have linked it from the SERIALST WWW page
