GOALS and OBJECTIVES:
This institute seeks to put forward a clear understanding of the creation,
interpretation, content, format, and uses of serials cataloging records.
Using both lecture and hands-on formats, the faculty will help
participants
* review cataloging rules and principles
* gain an understanding of standards for the bibliographic control of
serials
* garner insights into the opportunity for sharing and exchanging
records
* explore the interrelationships of the serials cataloging record with
other library functions such as acquisitions and check-in
* consider the various uses of the serials cataloging record for patron
access and for union listing, interlibrary loan, collection
management and development
AUDIENCE:
Technical services librarians, systems librarians, public services
librarians and library educators concerned with the creation and uses
of serials cataloging records.
