Hello Beth,

The US and UK ISSN centers can confer about whether the two editions need to have separate ISSN.  If there are significant enough differences that link resolvers are not working to deliver the right articles, it seems that there are separate editions that can have different ISSN.

The US ISSN Center will explore this further and communicate with our UK ISSN Centre colleagues to see what might be done.  At that point we (or subscribers to EBSCO and ProQuest products) can inform them of the appropriate ISSN.

I’ll get back in touch if we come up with a solution.

Best,

Regina

Subject: [SERIALST] The Economist and link resolvers

Hello,

We’re looking for help with an article linking problem we’re experiencing with The Economist.

ProQuest and EBSCO refer to different editions of The Economist (EBSCO's citations refer to the US edition, and ProQuest has the full text of the London edition). Both editions list the same ISSN so there is no way for any Open URL resolver to know which one is actually being referred to, thus even when we have access to the full-text article the link resolver often can’t identify it or links to incorrect article. If the articles happen to be on the same page and all other metadata is same for both editions all is good, but if not we get support tickets saying article linker is linking to incorrect articles or not working. Does anyone have insights or ideas about how to get around this issue, or how to best help our researchers at point of need?

Thank you,

--
