We are pleased to announce that Kaetrena David Kendrick,  Associate Librarian at the University of South Carolina-Lancaster Medford Library will be the keynote speaker at the Diversity & Inclusivity in Collection Building workshop on July 11^th.  Kendrick was named 2019 ACRL Academic/ Research Librarian of the Year.  Her work, which focuses on rural and underserved user populations and professional ethics, is well known and discussed in graduate library programs. Kendrick has been influential at the local, national and global level.  At her own library, she launched the Lancer Scholar Square, an open source institutional repository and also implemented a “Library of Things” service, which circulates non-traditional items such as tripods, presentation clickers, and virtual reality viewers to library users.  

 

Kendrick has published and presented on a large range of topics including equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in professional ethics and librarianship. She has contributed to LIS research through authored works on EDI topics in journal articles such as “The low morale experience of academic librarians: A phenomenological study”, “ The African American male librarian: Motivational factors in choosing a career in library and information science,” and The experience of Korean academic librarianship: A phenomenological study.”  

 

Kendrick is the author of “The Kaleidoscopic Concern: An Annotated Bibliography of Diversity, Recruitment, Retention, and Other Concerns Regarding African American and Ethnic Library Professionals in the United States” and “Global Evolution: A Chronological Annotated Bibliography of International Students in U.S. Academic Libraries”.
