Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce three free open online learning series below on metadata and linked data for the library and cultural heritage community. The asynchronous, self-paced modules are designed to provide the students with an active, interactive learning experience with a variety of hands-on exercises and assessments. These webinar series are supported through an award from the Institute of Museum and Library Service's Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program for the project "Building a Workforce of Information Professionals for 21st Century Global Information Access" for a four-year period (2014-18).

The webinars are available through the following project site: http://metadatace.cci.drexel.edu/omeka/

- "XML Metadata Standards" by Rebecca S. Guenther introduces the students to the emergence of XML-based metadata for organizing information resources, covering such topics as a comparison of various major XML metadata schemes and interoperability issues in metadata implementation.

- "Linked Data for Librarians" by Seth van Hooland and Ruben Verborgh provides an introduction to implementing Linked Data in library settings (Introduction to Semantic Web and Linked Dataand then explores more advanced aspects of Linked Data applications, projects, and skills, such as metadata cleaning, reconciliation, and enriching (Advanced course on applications, projects, and skills related to Linked Data).

We always welcome your comments, suggestions, and feedback about your learning experience.
