Part-time E-Resources Bibliographic Control
Assistant – DePaul University
Under the direction of the Technical Services Coordinator, the Part-time E-Resource Bibliographic Control Assistant copy catalogs, classifies, performs bibliographic maintenance and authority
verification, primarily focusing on batch processing and rapid cataloging of e-resources, including e-serials. Maintains current awareness of cataloging standards and practices. Participates in overall bibliographic control of the DePaul University Library's
collections.
Responsibilities & Duties
-
Helps establishes and implement e-serials and e-resource bibliographic control best practices and workflows in conjunction with other Technical Services staff.

Performs bibliographic control duties for electronic resources including adding, updating, and correcting bibliographic and holding records.

Participates in meetings relating to cataloging and bibliographic control issues for electronic resources, including policy, workflow, and special projects.

Helps investigate additional solutions for bibliographic control of electronic resources including using vendor records, OCLC’s Collection Manager records and functions, MarcEdit, and other
options for obtaining or harvesting cataloging metadata or records.

Helps evaluate quality of cataloging record batches

Helps design and implement batch cataloging, record load, and updating processes for electronic resources.

Identifies, evaluates, and stays current with emerging trends, practices, and standards in cataloging, metadata, electronic resources, discovery, and user behavior that have potential for
enhancing access to electronic resources.

Shares knowledge, as needed, with appropriate staff and colleagues.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
-
College degree.
-
1-2 years library work experience in technical services.
-
Experience and willingness to work with automated systems, including OCLC, Voyager, knowledge bases, MARCEdit.
Preferred Requirements
-
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution.
-
Knowledge of OCLC, I-Share, MARC formats, RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey classification.

Ability to interpret bibliographic data accurately and to learn and follow cataloging policies and procedures.

Ability to identify and vet quality of cataloging record sets.

Ability to type/do word processing with accuracy.

Ability to pay close attention to detail.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to learn, troubleshoot, and work with complex automated systems.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software skills, including Word and Excel.

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and technical skills.
