How can catalogers and metadata specialists use their skills to increase their libraries’ presence on the web? On Friday, June 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., join Ted Fons and a panel of librarians for a riveting discussion on this topic at the ALCTS in-person preconference Cataloging and Metadata For the Web: Meeting the User Where They Are. Based on his Library Technology Report, Ted will discuss ways in which catalogers and metadata specialists can expose their services and content on the open web right now, meeting their users where they are. In addition, panel members will share their first-hand experiences implementing the concepts and ideas discussed by Ted. Come with questions, leave with ideas.

 

Attendees will walk away from this program with a broad and dynamic view of linked data and its role in the success and evolution of libraries; an understanding of how the everyday work of catalogers and metadata specialists impact for the users’ experience; and practical methods to implement to enhance access to libraries’ data. Participants will also learn about metadata topics they choose and that are important to them.
