At University of Washington, original & complex copy serials copy cataloging is done by librarians (2 FTE in the serials cataloging unit + ~1 FTE by a couple librarians outside the unit) and by classified staff
(1 FTE). The classified staff person is a
Library Specialist II which requires five years of “technical library experience” and at least two years of experience in the specialization (or equivalent education/experience). The cataloging production work done by the LS II is the same as that done
by the librarians….the only significant difference in job assignments is that librarians also do a bunch of other things while the LS II position focuses on production.

Subject: [SERIALST] Question(s) about original serials cataloging
Good morning.
I would like to know who is doing original serials cataloging at your library. I am particularly interested to know if non-MLS folk are doing any original serials cataloging.
Thanks,
Carol
