Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for the position of Reference and Scholarly Communication Librarian.
The Reference and Scholarly Communication Librarian will have primary responsibility for leading the development and management of the University’s institutional repository and other
locally created digital collections, including planning and administering the repository, developing and conducting outreach initiatives, and assessing the effectiveness of those initiatives and services.
This position administers the digital repository including development of policies and procedures for its operation, serves as liaison to the Texas Digital Library, and provides
outreach to the campus community to solicit materials for repository and to encourage use of the materials in it. The Reference and Scholarly Communication Librarian will be knowledgeable of and keep the TAMU-CC community up to date on trends in intellectual
property rights and scholarly publishing, work in cooperation with campus units on issues and programs related to scholarly communication and explore alternative means of assessing scholarly output and impact and increasing recognition of TAMU-CC research.
In addition, the successful candidate will serve as a liaison to various academic departments, be responsible for collection development and library instruction in those areas, and will
assist with reference service, including evening rotations and an occasional weekend day. As with all professional librarian positions at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the successful candidate will participate in professional and scholarly activity
and will serve on library and university committees.
Qualifications
Required: Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program. Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic library environment. Applicant must demonstrate the following: knowledge of open access, the research process,
current issues in scholarly communication and the role of libraries and librarians in supporting scholarly practices; evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative; evidence of creativity, particularly in developing products and services such as
publications, training materials, workshops, and other tools relevant to scholarly communications, copyright, and fair use; strong oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to prepare and present quality written and oral reports and presentations;
strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills; ability to adjust priorities, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick, effective decisions; strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students
and a commitment to customer service.
Preferred: Demonstrated proficiency with digital systems and software applications, including working knowledge of digitization standards and formats, rights management and academic publishing
practices; familiarity with one or more major descriptive metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, or others); experience with working at a reference desk and assisting users with research-related questions; experience with instruction; demonstrated contribution
to the profession with scholarly publications and/or presentations and through contributions to professional organizations.

250 online databases and 200,000 electronic journals contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and electronic reference service, research skills instruction, interlibrary
loan, a media lab, and over 100 computers for research and coursework. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas.
