The Curtis Laws Wilson Library at Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking collaborative, knowledgeable, and service-oriented applicants for the position of Cataloging and Metadata Services Librarian. The successful candidate
will have experience in metadata and cataloging and be ready for the next step of career advancement. The Librarian manages a department and will be leading it into it into a post-MARC future. The relatively small size of the library means there will be many
opportunities to work in cross-functional teams as well as play a leadership role in initiatives to lead the library forward.
Responsibilities
Oversees traditional cataloging processes in the ILS as well as metadata processes in the institutional repository, Scholars’ Mine. Supervises and trains two paraprofessional staff members. Collaborates with institutional repository librarian
on development of metadata standards and digitization projects. Coordinates and processes vendor-supplied authority reports for errors, provides corrections, and notes trends for reporting to the University of Missouri System Quality Catalog Committee. Monitors
editing and loading MARC record loads of selected electronic products as well as troubleshoot access problems as appropriate. Learns new software and computer skills as needed for cataloging and metadata initiatives, including batch review and editing. Creates
crosswalks as needed to process metadata. Requires the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree. One year of professional experience in a cataloging or metadata-related position. Strong communication skills, cataloging experience, experience and knowledge of different metadata schemes, ability
and desire to learn new technologies to help library move into post-MARC universe. Grasp of how different components (ILS, discovery layer, knowledgebase) fit together. Self-directed. Excellent team-member.
Preferred: Two or more years of professional cataloging experience. Management skills, Skills in batch manipulating metadata (Excel, OpenRefine). Experience in Innovative Interfaces. Experience processing authority reports. Experience using
and creating crosswalks. Experience with the bepress Digital Commons repository platform.
