Access Services and Library Technology - Assistant Librarian

Siena College seeks an Assistant Librarian to manage Circulation/Reserves and Interlibrary Loan services at Standish Library.   The Access Services Librarian will enhance patron access to library services and collections, facilitated by creative uses of appropriate technologies and outreach strategies and technical support to a team of librarians. This is a 12 month, library faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian and reports to the Director of the Library.  

- Manage Circulation/Reserves department and the Circulation/Reserves components of the Integrated Library System.  Supervise Circulation and Evening Supervisors. Oversee hiring, training and supervision of student assistants.

- Provide technical support for resource sharing systems, interlibrary loan, document delivery and Connect NY initiatives.  Supervise the Interlibrary Loan Assistant.

- Serve as liaison with campus Information & Technology Services for end-user technology support and equipment/network trouble-shooting.  Manage public computers, printers and scanners in the library.

- In addition, provide technology support for a team of librarians (as needed):

-In consultation with technical services librarians support implementation and/or maintenance of online systems and vendor services.

-In consultation with the Coordinator of Reference and Electronic Resources, design and/or maintain support for instructional tools such as LibGuides and LibAnswers.

-In consultation with the Instructional Librarian, design instructional modules for online or onsite delivery.

-In consultation with the AV/Media Librarian, provide technical support for digitization projects and the integration of images and other media into educational technology systems.

Other duties as a member of the Library Faculty:

  1. Provide research assistance and advising to students and faculty through regular participation in the daytime, evening and weekend reference desk schedule as well as research consultations to individual students.

  2. Serve as a library liaison to assigned academic department for instruction, collection development and specialized library services.

  3. Provide information literacy instruction through course-related classroom presentation and exercises and other workshops.

  4. Serve on the Library Management Team.

  5. Meet the Library Faculty requirements delineated in the Faculty Handbook and departmental standards regarding teaching and other Library Faculty responsibilities to support academic programs; provide service to the College and community; and contribution to the profession.


Required Qualifications:

ALA-accredited MLS degree.  2 years post-MLS academic library experience.

Experience with library automation systems and resource sharing systems/software.

Demonstrated experience developing online services using Libguides, image editing and screen casting, and social media software.

Effective interpersonal, written and online communication skills.


Desired:

Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Millennium (or Sierra) systems and INN-Reach collaborations.

Familiarity with Blackboard, or similar educational technology/course management systems.

Supervisory experience.

Teaching experience.

Collection development experience.
