A Velo binding (two strips of plastic connected by several slim plastic posts) is easily removed by prying the plastic strips apart to break the posts. Once that is done, the binding cannot be reused, but the paper of the book will be unharmed. It can be rebound with a new Velo binding at most copy shops.

Hi all,

I was just approached by our Digital Archives Specialist who came across a journal bound with Velo binding, which is a practice I'm not familiar with.  He was wondering if there was a way to easily remove the binding (to scan and preserve) or if cutting would be best.  Any thoughts?
