Dear colleagues:

I am writing to let you know of a newly created, professional library position at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM).  Located in Dothan, Alabama, the ACOM is a new medical school created in 2013. The ACOM provides quality, learner-centered osteopathic education, research and service, with an emphasis on patient-centered, team-based primary care in service to medically underserved areas of Alabama, the Tri-State area and the nation.  To learn more about the ACOM, please follow this link:  http://www.acomedu.org/

The ACOM library was started as a digital library to serve faculty, students and staff of the ACOM with plans underway to have a presence in the Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC).    We have recently recruited two library faculty members who possess strong information technology skills and high standards of library service.  We now seek a third library faculty member to join the team.  Once we have recruited for this third position, each of the 3 full-time Information Technology Librarians will work at both the ACOM site and the SAMC site on a regular schedule each week, and all will serve as team members who will plan and deliver digital resources and public services to both the ACOM and the SAMC.

This is an exciting opportunity, one that will challenge and enrich you, both personally and professionally.  You will have a chance to create something new in a friendly and supportive environment.  If you haven’t worked in a new college of medicine, please give this opportunity serious consideration.  We are very happy to talk with you by telephone or Facetime/Skype about the position, the ACOM and the Dothan area.  Dothan is a lovely community located close to Florida beaches and Georgia mountains.  To learn more about Dothan, please follow this link:  http://www.dothan.org/

Position requirements:

·        Master’s degree in library or information science (MLS or MSLS) from an ALA-accredited program.

·        Minimum of 3 years of relevant library experience.

Salary is highly competitive.

Please apply if you are interested by going to the SAMC human resources website.
