Hi all,

ALCTS members likely received the email from President Mary Page offering up good thoughts (and sympathy) for all involved—SWETS employees facing unemployment, publishers awaiting payment, librarians caught up in the complexity of the situation—and Susan Davis’ posting gives some excellent advice about getting as much subscription/account info from the site as possible while it’s still viable.  So, knowing what a difficult situation this is for so many I almost hesitate to post about a possible way forward—I feel a little like gawker at an auto accident.  That said, if a library is looking for a new subscription agent I would highly recommend having a conversation with folks at WT Cox.  They have provided us with great service over the years, and  are very responsive and attentive.  It’s a great group of people and given that [former] SWETS customers will likely be approaching them in a state of crisis, I can guarantee you will be greeted with care and concern for your situation and they’ll do everything they can to create a seamless transition with no typical sales pressure.  They are just really good people from top to bottom.

I am an “accidental serials librarian” having had to take it on when budget cuts didn’t allow us to hire a replacement for a retiree so I came to the process knowing nothing about serials and they have been very patient with me.  This is not an advertisement, just thought I’d send up a flare for a good option.

Best wishes to everyone dealing with the mess.

Cindy
