My guess is that the "missing" numbers are the numbers belonging to the special issues, almost all of which we seem not to have received at our library.  For the past year, we currently hold about 4 special issues, only one of which has a number (and publication information) inside it.

How do you all number Variety? The volume and issue numbers in the back skip issue numbers seemingly at random, and there's a 1-2-3-4 numbering on the side for each month.
