The Alaska State Library is recruiting for an experienced Catalog Librarian (Librarian II).  The position closes May 8, 2014, at 5 pm Alaska time.

They say that librarians want to search, while users just want to find.  A key factor for turning a search into a find is accurate and thoughtful cataloging.  If you feel passionately about helping people find Alaskan resources, both behind the scenes and in direct public service, please consider joining our team.

 

The incumbent of this position will serve as the primary cataloger for the Alaska State Library, providing consistent, accurate bibliographical access to state resources in the Alaska State Library system via the online catalog. They will handle a wide variety of materials, including state publications, local and federal publications, Alaskana, photographic collections, manuscripts, maps, electronic resources, audiovisual materials, and more.

 

This position is also tasked with monitoring and maintaining collection control through the OCLC database and SIRSI online catalog. The incumbent serves as a resources to cataloging and classification groups statewide and on discussion groups nationwide. The position provides reference and circulation assistance to patrons, and is responsible for supervising one Office Assistant.

 

The successful candidate will have a strong background in cataloging with an eye to future trends and possibilities, demonstrated critical thinking skills, and the ability to adapt to changing needs and technology.
