Everything you just said about her was exactly true.  I remember her as a companion at Mexican conferences and her willingness to enjoy meeting and helping our colleagues in another country.

Is there something we can do at NASIG to honor her?

Kat is right, Birdie was a very special person. I’ve shared this elsewhere but what I remember about her in the midst of this very sad situation is that she was always the same, whenever I saw her (usually at NASIG): funny, smart, laid-back, encouraging, straightforward, caring, and kind. She was a great leader in the serials field.

I am overwhelmed with sadness by this news.  I have known Birdie since 1994 when she came to the NASIG conference in Vancouver and then spent the summer here to study French.  We have been ‘cher amis’ ever since.   I always looked forward to spending time with her at NASIG or ALA conferences.  We shared a connection for finding  ‘Mary’ wherever we travelled.   Though she was an innovator and early adopter in the electronic communications world, Birdie always sent beautiful hand-written cards which I shall treasure.

We have lost a very special person.
