The UC San Diego Library licenses electronic resources for use campus-wide and remotely by UC San Diego faculty, students and staff. The Content Acquisition and Resource Sharing Program (CARS) handles the ordering, licensing and payment for all locally licensed online databases, e-books and e-journals and facilitates access to these resources.

 

Description:

 

The incumbent provides broad support for the acquisition of electronic resources licensed by The Library for the UC San Diego campus and all affiliates. Facilitates access to online databases and other electronic resources and communicates with publishers, vendors, other library staff and online users.

 

Under the direction of the Serials & Electronic Resources Acquisitions Division Head, coordinates the license preparation and review process, handling all aspects pre- and post- negotiation. Communicates with vendors and publishers, edits contractual documents, transforms licenses for electronic storage and distribution and maintains online and paper license archives and business files. Analyzes usage statistics and prepares reports.

 

The incumbent orders and renews electronic resources, negotiating prices and business terms as appropriate; Maintains records and access links; trouble-shoots, tracks and resolves access problems.

 

Qualifications:

 

• Experience working in a research library or with an academic publisher or vendor.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and proven interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, flexibility and professionalism.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to review contractual documents and purchasing information.
• Strong problem solving skills and proven ability to apply creative solutions and improvements where no existing procedure applies or there is no precedent.
• Intermediate to advanced skill to create, edit and manipulate spreadsheets and reports.
• Strong online research skills to locate, recognize and interpret information such as pricing, access, administrative and license/terms of use for electronic resources.
• Experience in negotiating pricing, business terms or contract language preferred.
