Hello,
We have to value our collection for insurance purposes based on the items we currently hold. I would imagine that in the event of a disaster the best course of action would be to replace the bound serial collection
with electronic back files.

I am wondering why this question is being asked. If you actually lost a collection because of a disaster, would you replace it with print or buy an online archive? And if online were not available what is the likelihood that print would
be? Or is this just something to make an insurance claim? Just curious?

Angela,
I was asked for this information over a year ago and did some rough calculations based on average subscription costs plus binding costs. These are the numbers I came up with:
Avg cost for a bound volume: $217 + $10 for binding
General subjects average: $260
Arts & Humanities average: $191
Social Science average: $194.5
STEM average: $275
Good luck with your project.

Subject: [SERIALST] Bound Serial Replacement Cost
Hello,
My library is assessing the value of our general collections by using a per unit method instead of capitalization. Has anyone recently calculated the replacement value of a bound serial using a unit cost method?
